How we can Assist You
When applying for claims with the VA use our free accredited services. We suggest that you do not attempt to file a VA claim by yourself.
Our Veterans Affairs department assists veterans and their families when applying for VA benefits.
- Provide free accredited services through a veteran’s service organization.
- Guidance throughout the claims process.
- Compensation for disabilities in monthly payments
- Pension (low income monthly payments to qualified veterans or surviving spouses)
- Healthcare

- Veterans Treatment Court – rehab for non-violent offenders – PTSD, substance abuse etc.
- Questionnaire is given at the jail intake – “are you a veteran” and to see if veteran is qualified.
- This program is designed to provide rehabilitation to qualified veterans.
- Help in acquiring military service records

- It is possible that they are on file in our office or in the Recorders office.

Low Income Basic Pension, Housebound, and Assisted Living Pension Eligibility
- Tax-free monetary benefit for Veterans or Surviving Spouses
- Must be a Wartime veteran
- Must meet income limit requirements. MAPR Maximum Allowable Pension Rate

- Is available to all veterans that served on active duty during a national conflict or war time period.
- Provides grants to veterans and their dependent family members who are experiencing financial hardship.
- Emergency grants may be used by the families for needs such as food, housing, utilities, medical services etc.

Sullivan County Honor Guard – our office assists
- Consists of members of the American Legion and VFW.
- Performs Military Honors at veterans funerals
- Funeral home contacts the Honor Guard if the family desires military services.
- Performs Duties at patriotic and special events in the county.

Veteran Discounts
- Show your military ID or veteran ID and get admission into the Sullivan County Park and Lake. The admission is by vehicle not person.
- Getting Identification as a Veteran for discounts - Take your DD-214 to the BMV when renewing your license.
- A “V” and the word “veteran” will be put on the back of your license.
- Many hotels/restaurants/businesses i.e., Lowes gives veteran discounts.
- Hunting & Fishing license discount - Must have a service connected disability.
- Join a Veteran Service Organization. They Offer veterans discounts. Contact our office.
